Expatria Online Core Features
Expatria Online is a dedicated research portal for those looking to retire abroad, and especially for those looking to retire early. My family lives in Seattle, which is one of the most expensive cities in the world; on top of that, the weather is flat-out depressing for nine months out of the year, and my mom expressed an interest in retiring somewhere else in the next few years. She heard about some popular options like Italy or Portugal, but didn't know much about where else in the world she could consider. After traveling around the world with my girlfriend, I knew there were many places that were viable options, that people like her might have never considered.
Our onboarding process makes it easy to get started; we guide you through making your profile step by step, and including an interactive achievements system to help you understand what parts of the platform you have yet to discover. A special prize is available for they who complete every achievement, including the 'Atlas' achievements.
We start with an interactive Atlas of the world, highlighting the top 50 expat-friendly countries in green to make it a bit more obvious where to start. Every country in the world has comprehensive demographic data, information about personal and corporate tax policies, as well as immigration programs that offer citizenship through cash or real-estate investment.
Our Atlas contains over 1,000 cities, the most populous and culturally famous in the world. Based on cost-of-living data, we have generated descriptions for each as well as raw, comparative data for things such as a carton of eggs. Expatria+ members can save cities to their list of favorites, which will allow them to utilize our cost of living calculators to compare the projected cost of their expected lifestyles as they retire.
While you can certainly explore to your hearts content on the Atlas, we have created an exclusive 'Full Screen Mode' for Expatria+ members where you can review a countries demographics, cost of living and immigration programs one by one, saving them for later review. Each country has between 5 and 30 beautiful pictures, accessed by the up key, which will give you an idea of what a country like, say, Albania looks like that you might have never considered before.
When you find an immigration program that is interesting to you, Expatria+ members can add them to their Favorites as well to review our documentation for them. Every program is sourced back to the official government website that displays its requirements. Once you have a few favorites, it is time to do some cost of living analysis. When you create your profile, you set a 'hometown' for yourself based on the cities within our database; this creates your benchmark pricing. Within our cost of living calculators, you are able to edit the prices of the items within our benchmarks to accurately reflect the realities within your local grocery store, your local coffeeshops, your local shopping malls. No data is perfect. Then, you are able to update how often you go out to eat, how often you buy groceries per month, and then compare your current cost of living to the projected totals of your new retirement destination.
For many of you, retirement would not be complete without having a home to call your own. Indeed, many of the countries you could gain permanent residence or citizenship ask you to invest in real-estate; we have a developed a Chrome Extension that will allow you to save listings on any real-estate website in the world to your Expatria profile, where you can then review the prices later on for investment or show them to your friends and family to get their thoughts. While not available at launch in Novemeber 2024, we will soon be rolling out the ability to mark your saved listings as public, to give other members of our community some inspiration as to what their peers are looking at. As part of the product launch, we have aggregated 300 (well, 295) real-estate platforms from all around the world and organized them by country, for you to get started on your house hunt today.
